MASTER JEWELRY WORKSHOP:
METAL CLAYS AND FUSING STERLING TO COPPER SHEET
September 10th and 11th, 2016
10am-5pm each day
At The ArtCenter, Carrboro, NC
Taught by Janet Harriman (www.Harrimanjewelry.com)
The jewelry workshop will explore sculptural metal clays. Fusing sterling silver scrap metal to copper sheet metal will be investigated. Students can try one or both techniques. Enameling the fused sheet metal may be demonstrated. Projects may include a shadow box metal clay pendant and a pair of fused sheet metal earrings. Basic metalsmithing skills are required.
During this weekend workshop we will explore two techniques: working with metal clays: BronzClay and PMC or Silver Clay; and fusing sterling silver scrap metal to copper sheet metal. Students can try one or both techniques. Projects included will be a box metal clay pendant and a pair of fused sheet metal earrings. A demonstration on enameling on the fused sheet metal may be included.
Pre-requisite: Basic Metalsmithing - The First Step, or basic metalsmithing skills. Class fee for materials kit, payable to instructor.

JEWELRY MAKING WORKSHOP

September 30th-October 2nd, 2016 (three days)
Location: Atlantic Beach, NC
Taught by Janet Harriman
The workshop includes: Metalclays, Metalsmithing, Foldforming, Micro Forming, Fusing Enameling, and Experimenting.
Cost: $365.00 plus supplies -- you just pay for precious metals and stones.
Basic housing available in the ocean cottage in a shared room for $175.00 for the three days. There is a cleaning fee for day students. Deposit required.

Brief Bio:
Janet has been making jewelry and winning awards for over 35 years. She has been teaching workshops for 20 years. She has been working with PMC and BRONZclay for five years, and developing state-of-the-art techniques for using the these new materials. Janet was invited to the National PMC Conference in 2008 and 2010 at Purdue Univ. to demonstrate her methods, and an article she wrote about one of her discoveries was published in Glass on Metal magazine. Her jewelry is included in three PMC Annual Exceptional Work in Metal Clay books and Contemporary Metal Clay Rings by Hattie Sanderson.
