I received the following poem about neon
and reprinted it with Ralph's permission:

I like neon.
A world war II kid growing up
in a rural Ozark town (pop 960)
maybe neon got etched in my brain.
Representing Big Time.
The World a World Away
I couldn't wait to grow up and see.
Or maybe it was the 40's movies,
G.I.s leaving the farms
for Booze, Broads, and Fame,
all represented by a pulsating
cocktail glass down the block,
beckoning them in from the wet streets
with an offer of Love and Lust and Romance -
silver and red and pink
even in black and white
- and I was smitten.
