In 1966 I bought a big expensive book of Hoffmans' work. What has stayed with me is his sense of space and sense of color. He also uses rectangular shapes like no one else. These shapes float in his paintings -- and even resonate with the rectangular edges of the picture frame. When I work with rectangles (and who doesn't) I often look to his work.
