In the 1960's before I became a photographer, I spent several years (on and off) studying the compositions of Kandinsky. I especially like his early abstractions -- the ones that he painted from 1910 to the beginning of World War I. This example of his on this page is from that period. I have used his sense of composition and also his way of arranging abstract elements consistently in my work, both in my paintings early on and then later in my photography.
