I think that JMW Turner may be the most modern of painter of the 19th century. His atmospheric paintings do not concern themselves with precise renditions of the scene but rather convey the mood with an astonishingly accuracy. Even more than the Impressionists his paintings are about feeling and a sense of place. Turner's paintings, where he used a lot of yellow, have always intrigued me, so it is no accident that his compositions influenced my work both with color and mood.
